Between 2007 and 2019, the revenue generated by the in vitro diagnostics industry worldwide increased mildly. As the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, however, the demand for tests to detect the virus caused an increase of about 45 percent in the revenue of this industry. In just a year, sales of in vitro diagnostics increased from 59 billion euros to 85 billion euros. Revenue from in vitro diagnostics was forecast to grow even further in the following years, reaching 112 billion euros by 2024.
