The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is expected to cause increases in export trade in Africa by 2035. For instance, compared to 2020, exports from the manufacturing sector are forecast to increase by 110 percent under AfCFTA initiatives, while agriculture trade might experience a growth of nearly 50 percent.
In May 2019, the AfCFTA agreement officially entered into force after 22 African countries had ratified it. The agreement sought to boost inter-regional trade.
