In October 2020, an estimated number of around 7.2 million outpatients were treated in Japan in a day. The number of patients visiting medical facilities for outpatient care in one day decreased continuously in the past decade.

The survey was conducted at medical facilities on one designated date set for each institution from three days in October.
The estimated number of patients refers to the number of patients who received treatments at medical facilities on the surveyed day. It excludes the number of returning outpatients who were not treated during that period.
