According to the report published in October 2021 by the Commission Independente sur les Abus Sexuels dans l'Eglise (Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church), there have been approximately 330,000 victims of sexual violence within the Church in France since 1950. After these revelations, the demand of French Catholics for change within the religious institution has been massive. Nine out of ten Catholics surveyed in October 2021 felt that the Church should apologize to the victims, give more responsibility to women, and change the discourse on sexuality.
