According to a survey conducted in 2021 in Canada, almost 70 percent of respondents aged 55 years and over believed that whistleblower Frances Haugen's claims about Facebook were true. Overall, 11 percent of 18 to 34-year-olds did not believe Haugen's allegations.
Haugen, who was a product manager at Facebook, spoke out about the company’s failures in handling misinformation and teens' mental health, as well as the spread of hate speech, among other issues. In late 2021, Facebook rebranded and renamed to Meta Platforms, with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp being known as the company’s Family of Apps.
