A survey from 2021 found that around 4.2 percent of adults in Canada in the lowest income bracket had suicidal ideation in the past 12 months. A different survey found the prevalence of past-year suicidal ideation among this group to be 3.5 percent in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic may have played a role in the increase from 2019 to 2021 of low income adults reporting suicidal ideation. Figures for 2019 were taken from the 2019 Canadian Community Health Survey. The sample size for this survey was 57,034. Figures for 2021 were taken from Statistics Canada’s 2021 Survey on COVID-19 and Mental Health. The sample size for this survey was 5,742.
