According to a survey conducted in October 2021, over 90.8 percent of participants in Tokyo knew the term "LGBT." A majority of respondents were unfamiliar with other terms relating to the LGBTQ+ community, such as "SOGI" and "Ally."
While the term "SOGI" is an acronym for "sexual orientation and gender identity," "ally" refers to cisgender or heterosexual people supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
