In 2018, obesity and being overweight was a leading attributable risk factor to the cancer burden in Australia, particularly colorectal cancer at 13,169 disability adjusted life years. That year, almost 62,000 disability-adjusted life years, or DALYs, were attributed to obesity/being overweight. DALYs are used to measure the burden of a disease, or years of healthy life lost, by combining years of life lost with years of life lived with disability.
