In 2021, nearly 21.4 million metric tons of iron ore were produced in West Africa. Within the period reviewed, the production peak was reached in 2014 at almost 38 million metric tons. The producer countries considered were Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and Mali. Overall, Africa was responsible for over three percent of the iron ore produced worldwide in 2021.
