In 2021, the Netherlands experienced an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent. This was not spread out equally among the Dutch population, as citizens who achieved at most a low education level experienced an unemployment rate of 7.1 percent, significantly higher than the average unemployment rate experienced by individuals who achieved a high education level at 2.9 percent.

Low educational level: education at the level of primary education, vmbo, the first 3 years of havo/vwo and the entrance training, the former assistant training (mbo1).
Secondary education level: upper secondary education of HAVO/VWO, basic vocational training (MBO2), vocational training (MBO3) and middle management and specialist training (MBO4).
High level of education: education at HBO or WO level
