In 2022, France stood out as the European Union country with the highest volume of loans to households and non-financial organizations as a share of its gross domestic product (GDP). Meanwhile, the volume of loans in Germany amounted to approximately 74 percent of its GDP. On the other side of the spectrum, Poland and Romania were the countries with the lowest levels of indebtedness. Denmark was also the EU country with the highest household debt to gross disposable income ratio.
