After a fairly short campaign, the first round of the presidential elections took place in France on Sunday, April 10, 2022. If at the national level, the two winners were the incumbent president and the far right candidate, in the French overseas departments and territories, the candidate of the France Insoumise party came out on top, with the exception of Mayotte. Jean-Luc Mélenchon obtained more than half of the votes cast in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Guyane, and more than 40 percent in La Réunion.
More than one in four French people did not go to the polls.
