The number of residence permits granted in Sweden peaked in 2016 following the high influx of refugees to Europe in 2015 and 2016. In 2022, the number of permits granted rose to over 142,000 as a result of refugees arriving from Ukraine. The number fell to above 100,000 in 2023.
