The global population exposed to flooding events is projected to increase by some 24 percent under a 1.5 degrees Celsius warming scenario. Meanwhile, a warming scenario of two degrees Celsius would see the population exposed to floods rise up to 30 percent worldwide. Overall, people living in coastal cities are considered amongst the most vulnerable to sea level rise, storm surges, and coastal flooding.
