Cereal import dependency ratio in African countries 2018-2020

Lesotho and Cabo Verde recorded the highest dependence in cereals imports among African countries in the period between 2018 and 2020, at 100 percent. Djibouti, Congo, Seychelles, Mauritius, Gabon, and Libya followed, each with an import dependency ratio above 90 percent. The indicator provides a measure of how much of the available domestic food supply of cereals has been imported and how much originates in the country's production. The higher the dependency ratio, the more a country relies on cereals imports. On the other hand, Zambia recorded a negative ratio (-0.1 percent), which indicates the country is a net exporter of cereals.
