The volume of natural gas imported into the European Union (EU-27) from Russia increased since 2015 from 124 billion cubic meters to 154 billion cubic meters in 2021. Germany was the biggest importer of gas from Russia, accounting for roughly a third of the EU-27 imports of Russian gas in 2021. It was followed by Italy and the Netherlands.
