In 2023, real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the United States issued green bonds worth approximately 1.6 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for only 3.6 percent of total bonds issued by REITs in the United States. By contrast, the previous year green bonds represented 17.2 percent of total bonds issued by REITs.
