In fiscal year 2022, nearly 118.4 thousand tons of processed food products were certified organic, of which soy milk accounted for the largest share. That year, the production volume of organic soy milk amounted to approximately 31.85 thousand tons.
Agricultural produces distributed as organic foods in Japan have to be certified under the Organic Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) system or a comparable system in the case of imported products. The certification is done by auditors accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
