As of 2023, the hydropower capacity in Africa reached 40.3 gigawatts, increasing from 39.3 gigawatts in the previous year. Africa's hydropower capacity has been annually increasing since 2012. In that year, it was measured at about 27 gigawatts, an increase of more than 47 percent.
