Due to the dramatic increase in freight rates during 2020 and 2021, consumer prices of many products are projected to increase as well. Consumer prices of computers, electronic and optical products are expected to grow the most between 2021 and 2023, followed by furniture and textiles.

The impacts of the container freight rate surge on prices are based on a 243 percent increase in the CCFI between August 2020 and August 2021. The simulated impacts on price levels are long-term impacts, i.e., the simulation assumes that the current container freight rate surge and the corresponding increases in production costs are fully passed to consumers.
