Secondary school maturity exam pass rate in Poland 2005-2022

In 2022, the Polish secondary school exam pass rate was over 91 percent, an increase compared to the previous year. The highest pass rate was recorded in 2022, with 91 percent of high school graduates passing the exam.
The matura exam is taken at the end of secondary school and its result is a prerequisite for further education. It is taken by, among others, graduates of general secondary schools, graduates of technical secondary schools.
Since 2015, the matura exam has been conducted in a new formula. In order to pass the exam and obtain a school certificate, a student must: receive at least 30 percent of the points from the examination in each compulsory subject in the oral and written part, and take a written test in an additional subject of his/hers choice (no pass threshold).
Students are obliged to take two oral examinations: Polish and a foreign language; and four written examinations: Polish, a foreign language, mathematics at a basic level, and a test in an additional subject at an extended level. Apart from one obligatory examination in an additional subject at an extended level, students may take examinations in no more than five other subjects. Graduates of schools or departments with a national minority teaching language are also obliged to take an examination in the language of that minority.
