Government spending on education in Iceland has increased since 2019, when it was seven percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The highest spending was in 2020, when it reached 8.1 percent. In 2022, it had once more decreased to just above seven percent. That year, Iceland spent the highest share of its GDP on education in Europe.
