Of the 991 students with a foreign background who graduated from upper secondary schools in Iceland in 2021, people born in Iceland with one parent born abroad was the largest group, just ahead of immigrants. The latter is also the group that has changed the most since the school year 2000-2001, when only 28 immigrants graduated. In 2021, 5,500 people graduated from upper secondary schools in Iceland.
