Coverage of on-site sanitation and sewer connections in Sub-Saharan Africa 2020
On-site sanitation facilities were predominant in Sub-Saharan Africa as of 2020. Around 44 percent of the region's population had access to latrines and septic tanks, against the seven percent with sewer connections. In rural areas, sewered sanitation covered only one percent of the population, while it was accessible to 16 percent of the people living in urban regions.
