Access to sanitation facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa 2010-2020, by facility type
Around 7.3 percent of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had access to sewer connections in 2020. The share has kept stable since 2010, with minimal fluctuations. On the other hand, on-site sanitation technologies were predominant in the region. As of 2020, 32.3 percent of Sub-Saharan Africa's population used improved latrines, while nearly 11.6 percent were covered by septic tanks.
