In 2021, 68.6 percent of the 20,541 people entitled to vote in the Sami parliamentary election in Norway cast their vote. This was slightly less than four years earlier, and the 72.6 percent turnout in the first ever Sami parliamentary election remains the record. Norske Samers Riksforbund received the highest share of the votes in 2021.
Voter turnout in Sami parliamentary elections in Norway from 2005 to 2021
The Norwegian Sami parliament, located in Karasjok, was founded in 1989 by the Norwegian government to promote Sami culture and interests in Norway. Elections for the parliaments are held every four years, simultaneous with the Norwegian parliamentary election.
All Samis who are registered in the electoral register of the Norwegian Sami Parliament are entitled to vote.
