The share of person-days worked by women under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the financial year 2021 was 52.4 percent out of the total number of days worked. As compared to the previous years, there has been a decline in the share of person-days worked by women. This decline was a possible outcome of mass migration from urban to rural areas after the coronavirus pandemic hit the country in March 2020. In the rural areas, more men looked for employment under the scheme during this period.
