As of January 2021, about 20 percent of hotels located in provinces with high overstay rate in Thailand had severe impacts on their businesses due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country. The same survey revealed that the majority of hotels, where heavily affected by the pandemic, are located in popular travel destinations, such as Phuket, Bangkok, Pattaya and Krabi.

The values reflected here were for hotels in 20 provinces in Thailand with the highest overstay rate, including Yala, Phuket, Phang-nga, Surat Thani, Narathiwat, Chon Buri, Krabi, Bangkok, Songkhla, Samut Prakan, Chiang Mai, Pathum Thani, Trat, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Chiang Rai, Trang, Nonthaburi, and Satun.
