Russia is by far the the largest producer of natural gas-based carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in Europe. In 2022, natural gas emissions in Russia totaled 1,065 million short tons of CO₂, making it the second largest producer of natural gas based emissions worldwide, surpassed only by the United States.
