The number of persons entitled to vote in the Icelandic parliamentary elections has been growing from 2013 to 2021. In 2013, 237,807 people were entitled to vote in Iceland, whereas the number has increased to 254,681 in 2021. The Icelandic Parliament (Althing) is usually elected every four years, but elections were held both in 2016 and 2017 due to political scandals. The next parliamentary election is set for the end of September 2021.

The Icelandic Parliament (Althing) is elected every four years. There are 63 seats in the Icelandic Parliament, distributed in accordance with a method known as proportional representation. The system guarantees that political parties gain seats in the parliament in proportion to the number of votes cast for them throughout the country. There were elections in Iceland in both 2016 and 2017 due to political protests and scandals, among others related to the Panama Papers.
