As of May 2023, phase 3 was the stage with the largest number of clinical trials on HIV carried out in Brazil, with a total of 61 studies. Meanwhile, another 40 clinical trials were recorded as in phase 2. However, from the 221 clinical studies on HIV documented in the country, some were either already completed or no longer active, for different reasons. In 2023, Swiss-based company Roche was expected to be the leader firm among the global top pharmaceutical companies, with nearly 200 products in its R&D pipeline that year.
