According to a Chinese consumer survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in May 2021, about 34 percent of female respondents specified no interest in the shows on offer as the main reason to not pay for subscription video-on-demand (SVOD), while among males the expensive subscription fee was the leading reason. Alternative free or cheaper channels to stream the desired shows was another common reason among those unwilling to subscribe.
