In the first half of 2021, non-suicide improvised explosive devices (IED) was the largest cause for civilian casualties in Afghanistan, were about 501 civilians were killed, and 1.5 thousand were injured. In the same period, there was a total of about 1.7 thousand civilian fatalities in the country.
