As of 2021, nearly 90 percent of online cosmetic stores in Russia had an account on the Russian platform VKontakte. Telegram ranked as the second most popular social media site and was used by about one half of the retailers.

The study included 48 online stores of beauty category (specializing in retail of decorative and self-care cosmetics, perfumes, products for manicure and pedicure masters, and make-up artists) listed in the 1,000 largest Russian online stores by orders volume, four online stores of network marketing companies, and two largest universal marketplaces - Wildberries and Ozon.
Only online sales of cosmetics in the Russian territory were taken into consideration (excluding export sales).
