In 2020, the European country with the most punctual long-distance and high-speed passenger rail service was Lithuania, where 99 percent of the services were classified as punctual. During the same year, around 83 percent of the long-distance passenger rail services in all 27 member countries of the European Union arrived on time.

Under the RMMS, Member States are requested to report the number of passenger services arriving on time (meaning with a delay of five minutes or less). However, different definitions of punctuality applied in Member States.
