According to a survey conducted in November 2021, the majority of respondents in Japan were not interested in living in multiple locations. While close to six percent of the respondents already spent some of their time in a place different from their main residence, more than one-third expressed interest in the idea of having more than one place to live.

The source defines "living in multiple locations" as living in a place different from one's main residence on weekends or for a certain period of time during the year (regardless of the number of locations, type of ownership, or purpose).
The survey sample was adjusted to be consistent with the results of the national census 2020 in terms of the distribution of region, age, and gender.
