In 2008, around eight percent of polyester fibers produced worldwide came from recycled materials. By 2022, this figure reached 13 percent. Recycled polyester is usually produced with PET plastic bottles, although other post-consumer plastic waste such as discarded polyester textiles or ocean waste can be used.
