African unicorn startups 2021, by country
As of 2021, Africa counted four unicorn startups valued at over one billion U.S. dollars each. Nigeria housed three unicorns, the ecommerce startup Jumia, and the fintechs Interswitch and Flutterwave. Also specializing in digital payments, the Egyptian Fawry was the only unicorn in Northern Africa. In general, fintech raised the highest share of funding among startups in Africa.
