More than 86 million children were estimated to be in child labor in Sub-Saharan Africa as of 2020. Boys accounted for the highest share of children in child labor with 56.1 percent, while girls made up 43.9 percent. Furthermore, the prevalence of child labor is higher among children aged 5-11 years.

According to the source, the 2020 calculations are based on the extrapolation of data from national household surveys. The new estimates use more than 100 household surveys covering two thirds of the world’s population of children aged 5 to 17 years.
