College football takes place in organized leagues between teams of students from different universities in the U.S. and Canada. The culmination of these leagues is the playoffs, which takes place between the best eight teams in the country. However, proposals put forward in 2021 suggested expanding the number of teams in the playoff field from eight to 12. In a survey conducted in June 2021, 33 percent of college football fans believed that having eight teams in the college football playoffs was the ideal amount.
