Euro 2021: number of Instagram accounts by team

In celebration of the Euro 2020/21 competition, Statista published the Celebrity Index report. The Celebrity Index - Euro 2021 ranked all competing teams and players by their celebrity status. Metrics that are used to weight this ranking include social media following, their transfer market value as well as the sentiment and number of global online news articles that mention any player competing. The teams with the highest total number of Instagram accounts were Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Switzerland - with a total of 26 IG accounts each.

The Celebrity Index was scored weighting a number of metrics to create an index score. Metrics and weighting included;

Social media (51 percent) - average ratio of followers of the players to monthly users of Instagram and Twitter are considered, if available.

Market value (29 percent) - market value is the average market value of the players by team.

Online news coverage (20 percent) - Number of online articles & average sentiment score.
