As of April 2021, almost half of all parents with children going to school stated in a survey to have had experienced an accident or close call with someone else's child riding a bicycle. Commonly shared experiences were that children were driving inattentively or dangerously, for instance, by fiddling with their smartphones while riding.

Survey subjects were parents/guardians with elementary school to high school children riding their bicycles at least once a month.
