In 2023, about 34 million visitors travelled to Hong Kong. By far the largest number of visitors came from mainland China, numbering around 26.8 million that year. The COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating effect on overall arrivals in 2020 and especially 2021, but the numbers started picking up in 2022.
