In the 2023 financial year, it was estimated that 69.9 percent of Australians' average daily consumption of milk came from regular fat milk. Milk alternatives made up a combined total of around 3.8 percent.

Daily per capita estimates are derived by dividing the annual total by the number of days in the reference year and dividing by the Estimated Resident Population (ERP). Data representing each financial year uses the ERP for December. For example, the 2022–23 estimates use ERP for December 2022. No adjustments have been made to the ERP for foods and non-alcoholic beverages that are typically consumed by selected age groups only, such as baby food.Â
Australia's financial year runs from July 1 to June 30; for example, financial year 2017 starts on July 1, 2016, and ends on June 30, 2017.
