Of 2,400 surveyed Ghanaians in 2019, 72 percent were willing to pay more taxes from their own resources in order to contribute to developing the nation. On the other hand, some 18 percent of them preferred the use of external loans for the same cause. Overall, according to the same survey, a percentage of the respondents similar to those willing to pay more taxes reported that it was difficult or very difficult to know how the government spent taxes.

Survey results refer to the share of respondents who "agree" or "agree very strongly" with each statement.
