The total cost of the concordat system in Alsace-Moselle represents a sum of approximately 74 million euros per year for the State, which is paid for by all French taxpayers. In 2021, more than two thirds of the French population was in favor of repealing the concordat. This opinion was shared by almost nine out of ten people affiliated with the Europe Ecologie - Les Verts party. However, this repeal was less enthusiastic among the inhabitants of the Alsace-Moselle region.
