Violence against civilians in Mozambique 2018-2021
Around 71 episodes of violence against civilians were registered in Mozambique until May 2021. Some 123 people died as a result of such events in the same period. In 2020, the country recorded 812 similar fatalities. Mozambique has seen the deterioration of an ongoing conflict in the northern province Cabo Delgado. Non-state armed groups are accused of perpetrating extreme violent attacks, including arbitrary killings and detentions, human trafficking, and kidnapping. As of March 2021, over 670 Mozambicans were displaced. The majority fleed their homes within Cabo Delgado to escape the violence in the region.
