In 2020, cumulative South African emigrants amounted to roughly 915 million. The vast majority settled in United Kingdom (roughly 247 thousand), followed by Australia (nearly 200 thousand). Together, the two countries constituted roughly 49 percent of the total South African migrants living abroad. Moreover, the South African female-to-male ratio in these countries was relatively equal.
