According to a survey conducted in March 2021 in Japan, the largest share of consumers, almost 24 percent, had at least 101 face masks stockpiled at home.
While wearing face masks was already a common habit exhibited prior to the coronavirus pandemic in Japan, the industry recorded a drop in stock at retailers following the global outbreak in 2020 as consumers bought disposable face masks in bulks.
