East Khasi hills district of the eastern Indian state of Meghalaya had the highest share of registered cancer cases in the country among men due to tobacco consumption of over 70 percent between the years 2012 and 2016. In the same region, over 46 percent of the cancer cases among women were associated with smoking tobacco.
